Life is well, rather… stuck?

You have all your ducks in a row, but something seems to be stopping you? Is something intangible slowing down your business? Maybe you have inner conflicts with yourself that need addressing so you can start moving forward again.

A while ago week I read a wonderful book by negotiation expert Professor Dr. William Ury of Harvard Business School called Getting to Yes with Yourself and I found some treasures to help us out of those stuck places in business and in life.

Branding is key - do you have a "brand"?

When it comes to start-ups, your BRAND is really key, and you need to establish it clearly.

Branding is key to a new business and to continuing onwards and upwards as an established enterprise. Keep it clear and keep it in front of your potential customers and clients.

But what is branding and how do I go about it as a start-up? First you need a name (or name of the product), then a logo, website, and URL. There are more steps, but that is the very beginning.

Then you need to know why you are even doing this (and the answer is NOT to make money!). sometimes this is called a “mission statement”.

Networking can get you referrals.

Your best referrals will mostly come from people you know and I basically work from referrals. (former clients and present onew, remember to refer me, please)

To find more people who will refer you, will have to grow your network.

A web presence is nice, but, that’s where your referrals go to “check you out” after your name has come up. A website is not usually used by clients and customers to” find” you. They get referred, instead.

Thus, you need these ten tips for good networking practice.

Thoughts on Decision Making

Are you trying to make a decision about something and just can’t get past some of the “ish” factors? Or are you talking yourself into something that maybe you (or your trusted network) might not feel so right about- maybe you are wanting to just get that first deal? ALSO: Loss aversion can derail our plans, our business, our life. It makes us focus too much on the short-term and not the long-term. We tend to give up on things that we see as loss to us especially when we apply great meaning to that thing, whatever it might be. We need to remember to always think long-term.
