Year-End Reflection - for change

As we move towards 2022, I am doing some reflection.  It helps to bring about change.

I’m reflecting on my situation and accepting for it is, and then doing what I can about it.

For example, a young friend in another country (Poland) was very ill with covid complications and her liver almost shut down but she finally recovered and returned to work as a doctor, where she was attacked by antivaxers and lost her unborn baby.

Awful.

I can only pray, so that’s what I do now, for her, for her family and for the violent situation.

Other friends in Switzerland have tested positive … what can I do? Call and encourage and offer my help to buy groceries and of course, pray.

Another friend has recently moved to a nursing home and is lonely; I can visit and send text messages.

A close family member has recently been diagnosed with colon cancer as has another neighbor of ours … I can pray and help with what is within my realm of power.

And so on… But what about work?

My clients are in charge of what they choose to do BUT I help them reflect, accept what is and do what they can. They all have a lot of power.

Regarding teaching at the FHNW:

I am told we are still teaching in person with covid certificates.  What can I do? I can make sure my certificate is up-to-date and check my students’ certificates each time they come to class.  Also, when my students write me about not having vaccinations, I can encourage them because out school offers immunization on campus and free testing- at least for now.

Finally, I am meeting on campus and at other places and I have to keep my phone charged to have my app available.

What can you change for the better in the New Year?

Reflect on how things went this past year,

And accept life and reality for what it is—really accept it, and don’t fight it.

Then think about what your power is in all of this (what can you do?) and effect a change on what you have power over.

Sometimes it is your response to the situation, sometimes it is more.

What you can also do is remember that the internet is a strange and scary place where lots of people pass on conspiracy theories without checking on the truth behind them (and their origin).

Be very careful about your response and try and make sure that you are part of the solution, if possible.

Until further notice, I am focusing on the positive in this world, praying for my friends and thinking about and planning for the next semester, and for my next client meetings.

What are you reflecting on?  What can you do about your situation to bring about positive change?

Have a great week reflecting and accepting the situation and changing what you can.
