To work we go - back to work and CHANGE(s)
Back to Work – part 3 of 3, a bit late, but workth it!
TAKE ACTION! - A Walk and a PLAN
I had a walk and made a plan for this fall. And I stuck to it, and then did not blog for a while.
What can I do in light of my new challenge as a full-time coach and supervisor? This fall I will be doing most of these actions listed below. Will you join me in some ACTION – what is your PLAN? How will you grow and invest in your community? Here are a few ideas (from my big “to do” list):
· Hang out with people who are different from you- clients, friends, colleagues
The mere fact you are learning from someone with differences will make you more open, and a better person. You will have new horizons to consider. Mostly listen, don’t preach or teach. This is a different king of networking (and of course, I will be doing some of that, too). I try hard to do this. I have friends who a refugees, friends who a re MUCH wealthier than I, friends who have never gone to college, friends with multiple post college degrees, friends who work at McDonalds and others who own or are CEOs/presidents of companies and organizations. I get a lot of different views and ideas from them.
· Give of your time!
If you can (and I hope to do this), volunteer! I hope to volunteer at a local outreach for those on the margins, and you could find something that fits you such as working at the free meal service at the church down the street, for example (the one I know best of is in St. Paul, MN and is called “Loaves and Fishes”), but whatever you choose, work for the good of your community. I have been working with SINGA in Zürich for years, and I do hope to do so again soon. Also, I work as a mentor with Tandem in the canton Aargau. What can you do that fits with your passions and “skills portfolio”?
· Give of your money
Put your money where your mouth is (or tears are), especially if you are short on time.
· Join a group of bridge-builders
One of the things that helps positive change most, is to intentionally meet up with people who want to make a peaceful difference and build bridges between differences. BUILD bridges, don’t tear them down! I have found a few places to do this, but you need to write me for a quick conversation regarding this.
CHANGE IS GOOD … and yet …
I have mentioned that there is a change, a transition in my life to full time coach, supervisor and spiritual director. This means lots of calendar shifts for me, and yet, it is and will be good. Actually, I have found myself busier than expected, and so, email me for a link to my calendar meeting sing-up, if you want to see me!
Change IS good!
Even if change is good, it needs planning (I have done and will continue to do that!) and it is scary sometimes, so I have my people supporting me – my own core group of supervisors and coaches, a supervisor for me alone, my spiritual director, and my F&Fs (those are the family and friends I need and are my go -tos, may cymbrogi…).
Who do you have to do the listening and questioning for your work and life?
Enjoy your week and remember to not “let” change happen but direct it to the good of your person and your community.
Happy first week of Advent,
